StopWaste is a mid-sized public agency in the environmental services sector, serving 17 member agencies in Alameda County. It helps residents, businesses, schools, and governments become better stewards of the environment by preventing waste, saving energy, conserving resources, and increasing resilience to climate change. Based in Oakland, California, the organization operates as a regional public entity focused on waste reduction and resource management.

In March 2026, StopWaste's Advisory Group partnered with the California Product Stewardship Council to host a free residential solar panel collection event at the Fremont Recycling & Transfer Station for Alameda County residents. Earlier, the group collaborated with UC Merced and the cities of Dublin and Pleasanton to study how compost affects soil carbon sequestration and soil greenhouse gas emissions in city parks, reflecting its involvement in applied environmental research. It has also received recognition as a California Green Business in 2025 and was named a winner of the Re-X Before Recycling Prize in February 2025.
