STRIDES Tutoring provides individualized, one-on-one tutoring for students who struggle academically. It operates across six locations in the Upstate region of South Carolina. The program uses Potentials, a research-based framework aimed at building skills such as phonemic awareness, accuracy, visual memory, automaticity, spelling, number sense, and computation. Math instruction emphasizes kinesthetic learning with manipulatives, and students are evaluated monthly, with many reaching grade level within three to four months. Families participate as partners in planning and maintaining regular attendance, and they receive training to apply strategies at home. The program serves a large share of low-income families—about 60% of students live at federal poverty or low-income levels—and a Scholarship Fund covers attendance for households earning under $31,000 annually through a Sliding Fee Scale.
