Modh is the Gaelic word for method. This word is a reflection of the studio founder’s Irish and American heritage and underpins an architectural process that is methodical, deliberative, and respectful in its approach to client, building, and place. This method seeks to find particular answers to design problems through a thorough investigation of all aspects of the design and construction process; emphasizing a respectful engagement with construction professionals and an optimistic examination of the opportunities of great design solutions. Working with Clients The best design solutions are those that take full advantage of the circumstances of budget, site, and construction method. These solutions are arrived at through an intimate understanding of the client’s needs to produce designs that are particular to the site or building and reflect the way a client wants to live and work. The design process relies on an objective examination of how the client lives and works currently followed by the presentation of alternatives that closely respond to the new opportunities the design process can facilitate. Working with Craftspeople The best built buildings are those that reflect the skill and experience of the builders. By engaging construction professionals early in the design process, Studio Modh is able to design and document buildings that reflect the local trade capabilities and the knowledge of the local region. This, in turn, streamlines the construction schedule and assists the owner in controlling cost.
