Suncoast Kids Place provides peer grief support groups for children and teens, ages 3-18, who have experienced the death of someone important to them.  SKP has been providing support since 2008 and has served over 2,000 children and their families in the Tampa Bay area.

Suncoast Kids Place recognizes that children's grief is unique, and that grief ignored, can cause difficulties later in life: physically, emotionally and behaviorally.  Unresolved grief in children and teens can cause depression, violence, truancy, eating disorders, alcoholism, drug abuse, anxiety and suicide.  We are committed to providing support, hope, and healing to families that are grieving the death of a significant person if it happened recently, or years ago. 

Our model of support is based on play therapy and art therapy techniques.  Each group has an age appropriate curriculum that teaches the children and teens about expressing their grief and assists in normalizing the feelings.  While we do not provide therapy, our support groups help the children and teens realize that they are not alone.
