In 1980, Nerv Thomas immigrated to the United States from St. Lucia, British West Indies, where he started as a migrant farm worker, picking blueberries and apples in Waynesboro, New Jersey.

Today, he and his wife, Melinna, oversee Swift Services International, a multidivisional freight company based in Houston, with 50+ employees and additional offices in Baytown, Grand Prairie, and other Texas locations. 

In 2000, Swift had transportation revenues of approximately $5 million, with annual growth between 10% and 20%. Since then, Swift has greatly expanded its net worth with revenue increases of $10+ million, and cash reserves of more than $1 million for "emergency" purposes. The company also carries zero debt in loans, and services over 1,100+ clients from different corporations.
