The Syracuse Symphony Orchestra is a mid-sized performing arts organization based in Syracuse, New York, serving the Central and Northern New York State region. Founded in 1961 as a community orchestra, it evolved into a fully professional resident ensemble that presents both full-orchestra and chamber performances. The orchestra comprises about 80 musicians and maintains an international-caliber conducting staff, supporting a diverse concert program across the region. During a 39-week season, the ensemble reaches more than 225,000 audience members, presenting performances throughout Central and Northern New York. By the end of the 2009-2010 season the organization had produced over 132 concerts, visiting 16 counties and 35 cities and towns across New York State.
