Türk Kızılay, or the Turkish Red Crescent, is a non-profit humanitarian organization based in Atça, in the Ankara region of Turkey. It traces its origins to 1868, when a group of Ottoman doctors formed a relief effort to treat wounded and ill soldiers on the battlefield, creating the Ottoman Relief Society for the Wounded and Sick Soldiers. The organization later became the Turkey Red Crescent Association in 1923 and adopted its current name in 1947. As a large non-profit with a substantial workforce, it functions as the national Red Crescent society for Turkey. It is part of the broader Red Crescent movement, focusing on humanitarian relief within the country. The organization maintains a website at kizilay.org.tr for information about its history and activities.
