The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is a government regulator for the telecommunications sector in the Sultanate of Oman. Established in 2002, it aims to liberalize and promote telecom services while regulating and maintaining the quality of those services. The authority is a mid-sized organization and seeks to advance the interests of service providers and beneficiaries, while ensuring consumers have access to international standards and a reasonable range of choices and prices. The TRA operates within the broader telecommunications industry, balancing market access with consumer protection. In 2026 it launched a Self-Declaration of Conformity service to streamline market entry for eligible telecom equipment, and it contracted Starlink to supply and install 185 satellite internet devices across selected schools. Earlier that year the authority was among recipients of the Best Team award in the Institutional Excellence System Award, reflecting recognition of its organizational performance.
