Founded in 1981, the Tennessee River Gorge Trust is a Chattanooga-based nonprofit organization focused on protecting land, educating the public, and stewarding resources within the Tennessee River Gorge. As a 501(c)(3) entity, it conducts land protection initiatives and stewardship programs to conserve the gorge's ecosystem. The trust currently protects about 17,000 of the Gorge's 27,000 acres, reflecting a substantial commitment to regional conservation. In 2023, the organization appointed Eliot Berz as executive director. It has expanded land protections through acquisitions such as 32 acres at Edwards Point atop Signal Mountain and a mountain bog site on Aetna Mountain, and it collaborates with the Southeastern Grasslands Initiative to monitor the bog habitat.
