The Congressional Award Foundation administers a nonpartisan, voluntary program that recognizes young Americans with Bronze, Silver, and Gold Certificates and Medals. Open to youth aged 13 1/2 to 24, the program requires participants to set goals in four areas: Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. Based in Washington, DC, the organization functions within the philanthropic fundraising landscape by coordinating events and partnerships that support outreach and resource development. Each June, the Gold Medal ceremony is held in the U.S. Capitol, where Members of Congress present Medals to recipients. Throughout the year, additional events in Washington, DC involve congressional participation to raise awareness and attract private-sector support. In 2026, The Congressional Award announced partnerships with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Blue Campaign and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to continue the Spot the Blue youth awareness initiative for National Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
