The Daily Californian is an independent, student-run newspaper serving the UC Berkeley campus and the Berkeley community, published by Independent Berkeley Students Publishing Company, Inc. It is funded entirely through advertising, with no financial support from the university or the Associated Students of the University of California. The publication runs four days a week during the academic year and weekly in the summer, and staff are current or recently graduated UC Berkeley students, with most business operations student-led. Founded in 1871, it ranks among the oldest newspapers on the West Coast and among the oldest college newspapers in the United States.
