The Episcopal Church of the Ascension is a mid-sized parish in Knoxville, Tennessee, within the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee. It began as a mission project from St. John's Episcopal Church (the future Cathedral) aimed at establishing a presence in West Knoxville, organizing as West Knoxville Fellowship and holding early meetings in parishioners' homes. Through land donated by the Van Deventer family and a broad founding member canvass, Ascension attained full parish status in 1957 with about 225 members, and a 1986 nave expansion increased seating to 650, reflecting ongoing growth. 

The church relies on lay leadership, an engaged congregation, and a dedicated staff to support worship, ministries, and community involvement as part of its mission to foster experiences of faith and service. Located in Knoxville, it has grown to well over 1,000 members and serves the surrounding community through worship and related activities.
