The Exchange, officially the Army & Air Force Exchange Service, is the Department of War's largest retailer. It provides tax-free merchandise and services to military communities, supporting Warfighters wherever they are, including remote locations and war zones where traditional retailers can't operate. Based in Dallas, Texas, it operates more than 5,000 facilities across 30 countries, 50 states, and four U.S. territories. Its customer base includes about 33.5 million eligible individuals, including active-duty members, retirees, military family members, National Guard and Reservists, and other veterans and caregivers, with access to tax-free shopping. The organization prioritizes active-duty spouses for open positions and maintains a continuity program to support families during relocations. In March 2026, it launched the My Exchange app to provide mobile access to tax-free shopping and military-exclusive pricing.
