Since 1866, TFH has remained steadfast in its mission to care for New Yorkers with the fewest resources and the greatest needs. Our mission is grounded in the three enduring pillars that have defined us for nearly 160 years: providing essential relief necessities to families in crisis; delivering leading, evidence-based health education that empowers individuals across generations; and offering high-quality, compassionate healthcare to the city’s poorest residents regardless of ability to pay.

As family doctor to New York City’s poorest residents, The Floating Hospital has continuously provided relief, health education and primary healthcare to all five boroughs of New York City for more than 160 years.  Since the tragic events of 9/11, we are no longer “float”, but are now land-based in our main Long Island City clinic, as well as several satellites in New York City homeless family shelters. We continue our pioneering tradition of providing New York City’s most vulnerable with the consistent, respectful holistic approach to ‘healthcare’ New Yorkers expect from their personal family physicians. We provide primary medical, dental, and mental healthcare services as well as optometry infectious disease and other specialties. Our relief work consist of the distribution of necessities and our free patient transportation service. Health education, another staple since 1866, rounds out our whole-family approach by teaching everything from how to cook on limited means, to socio-emotional learning and even a camp for homeless teens.
