The Flying Classroom provides a PK-12 STEM+ supplemental curriculum that combines expeditionary and immersive learning with live virtual sessions and hands-on design challenges to engage students in science, technology, engineering, and math. The program is designed to build a solid STEM+ foundation to prepare students for college, careers, and life beyond school, and it can be implemented during the school day, after school, or adapted to fit different schools or organizations. Content is shaped by the global expeditions of Captain Barrington Irving, whose journeys inform the topics and projects students explore. The curriculum incorporates real-world projects introduced through those expeditions, such as experiences related to Orbis Eye Hospital, Uber Air, STEMstruction, race car builds, and airplane builds. Based in Opa Locka, Florida, the Flying Classroom operates with a small team and serves PK-12 schools and after-school programs seeking experiential STEM education. In 2025, it partnered with Broward County Public Schools to host the Fall STEM Fest, a family-friendly event designed to promote hands-on STEM activities and demonstrations.
