Based in Oakland Park, Florida, The Girl Choir of South Florida provides structured choral education for girls and young women aged 6 to 18. Founded in 2005 to address the need for a program sensitive to girls’ needs and abilities, it offers a multi-level curriculum combining sight-reading, ear training, vocal production, and music theory across several ensembles (Primes, Mezzo, Concert, Chamber Singers) to develop technique and teamwork. An experienced artistic staff leads the program, including founder Sylvia Aycock. The choir's activities extend beyond regular rehearsals to major fall and spring performances and numerous community and charitable engagements; ensembles have toured internationally, appeared in festivals, on television, and with Florida Grand Opera, including a performance at the White House. In the 2016-2017 season, Lindsey Novitske served as Interim Artistic Director during a sabbatical of Wallis Peterson.
