The House of the Seven Gables is a historic house museum and settlement organization based in Salem, Massachusetts, preserving a 17th-century property that reflects the region's maritime and literary heritage. Designated a National Historic Landmark District in 2007, the site is closely associated with Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1851 novel and remains notable for its seaside setting and preserved mansion. In 1910, Caroline Emmerton restored the property and opened it as a museum and Settlement House to support the local immigrant community; the Settlement Association continues that mission today. It offers public programs and guided tours of the mansion, along with access to its lawn and gardens. The organization also runs educational initiatives, including free English as a Second Language and Citizenship classes, and provides a platform for immigrant voices on the North Shore.
