The J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) is a biotechnology research organization formed in 2006 through the merger of The Institute for Genomic Research, The Center for the Advancement of Genomics, and several affiliated groups, creating a large, genomics-focused institution. It now comprises more than 400 scientists and staff and occupies more than 250,000 square feet of laboratory space. The organization is based in La Jolla, California, United States, with significant operations historically in Rockville, Maryland and San Diego, California. In January 2026, JCVI launched a new venture called Diploid Genomics.
