The Ocean Project is a nonprofit organization based in Providence, Rhode Island, founded in the late 1990s. It advances ocean conservation by partnering with zoos, aquariums, and museums, along with youth leaders and youth-focused organizations worldwide, to enhance how partner institutions engage visitors and the public in conservation outcomes. The organization supports partners with approaches for effective audience engagement and coordinates regional, national, and international conservation action, and since 2002 has served as the primary global coordinator for World Ocean Day. The network comprises roughly 2,000 partner organizations across all U.S. states and about 150 other countries, reflecting its broad international reach. It functions as a facilitator within the non-profit ocean conservation space, linking zoos, aquariums, museums, youth groups, and related institutions to advance ocean education and action. In 2023, it announced a multi-year action theme for 2024 titled Catalyzing Action for Its Ocean & Climate.
