Given the overwhelming public health significance of spine-related disorders and the growing recognition that current medical practices are often ineffective or carry unacceptable levels of risk, the time is right for a new approach to spine care. It is for this reason that the Spine Institute for Quality™ (Spine IQ™) was created.

Spine IQ is a private, not-for-profit organization with the mission to define quality, demonstrate value, and build trust in spine care delivery. Our vision is to use clinical data registries to identify clinicians with demonstrated best practices in conservative spine care management and make that information available to patients and other stakeholders. More specifically, Spine IQ supports continual quality improvement in conservative spine care delivery using a data-driven approach that 1) is focused on outcomes that matter most to patients and 2) serves as a critical resource to those involved in spine care policy development. In 2016 Spine IQ developed the first Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) approved Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) for low back pain that focuses on conservative spine care deliver. Subsequently, the Spine IQ QCDR is in alignment with Medicare Quality Payment Program (QPP) Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and other health care payment initiatives.
