The Trilateral Commission is a global membership organization in the international affairs arena, based in Washington, DC. It brings together senior policymakers, business leaders, and representatives of media and academia to discuss and propose solutions to global problems. Founded in 1973, the Commission serves as a venue to incubate ideas and build relationships across sectors and the geographies of North America, Europe, and Asia. Members and represented countries share values centered on the rule of law, open economies and societies, and democratic principles. Traditionally focused on geopolitical trends and challenges, the Commission has broadened its scope to examine issues that affect a country's ability to maintain traditional leadership in the international system. It functions as a cross-regional forum that connects participants from North America, Europe, and Asia to examine complex global developments in a non-partisan setting.
