The Vinyl Institute is a nonprofit trade association based in Washington, D.C., that represents manufacturers across the vinyl value chain, including vinyl resin, vinyl chloride monomer, vinyl additives and modifiers, and vinyl packaging materials. Vinyl is a versatile material used across many products, with properties that can be rigid or flexible and to resist weather and heat. In the United States, vinyl resin production totals about 15 billion pounds per year, with roughly 10 billion pounds used domestically and about 5 billion pounds exported, and roughly 70 percent of domestic resin goes to building and construction. The sector employs hundreds of thousands of workers across nearly 3,000 facilities and contributes about $54 billion to the economy. The Institute pursues recycling and policy initiatives, including its VIABILITY recycling grant program launched in 2023, and participates in industry events such as its Congressional Fly-In held in Washington, D.C., in April 2026.
