The Upper West Side, a region of New York City with a rich history of diversity and a strong sense of community, has become more and more unaffordable for low- and moderate-income families. Of the 210,000 residents, 26,000 live below the poverty line of $24,000 for a family of four per year–this includes 9,000 children.

The DOME Project and Strycker’s Bay Neighborhood Council partnership has significantly broadened our reach and impact to serve greater numbers of community residents through the creation of The West Side Commons (The Commons). Located on Amsterdam Avenue between 93rd and 94th Streets, The Commons is a place where low- and moderate-income youth and families of the Upper West Side community come together as an extended family to learn and share resources and opportunities that help them face and overcome problems created by unequal access to quality education and economic opportunities.

The Commons serves more than 500 families each year and provides programming six days a week for 300 Upper West Side children, youth, and families.
