The Theatre Historical Society of America documents and interprets the architectural, cultural, and social history of American theatres. Through the American Theatre Architecture Archive and educational programs, including publications and the Conclave Theatre Tour, it advances awareness, appreciation, and scholarly study of theatres across the United States. Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the organization appears to operate with a very small staff. The audience for THS includes researchers, historians, and enthusiasts who seek to understand the evolution and significance of historic venues within the broader context of American theatre history. In addition to its archival and educational activities, THS has been involved in asset transactions affecting its holdings, signaling a shift in its material collections and focus. The society positions itself within the museum and historical site sector, contributing specialized resources to the preservation and study of theatre architecture and cultural heritage.
