Thomas Livestock is a fourth generation family farm, located in Broken Bow, Nebraska. A farrow to finish operation with 16,500 sows, finishing around 580,000 market hogs per year. In the past few years TLC has earned a reputation as one of the most successful swine operations in the world, with a core value of doing what’s right for people and pigs.

RJ Thomas is the owner, his son Matt is Vice President, and Matt’s son Hunter is in college, while working part time learning the family business.

Thomas Livestock has entertained tours from countless swine production systems from the United States, and over 20 foreign countries. The reason TLC is willing to share information with producers from around the world, is not to improve their competitor’s success, but rather promote a philosophy within the industry, that the people at Thomas Livestock believe to be the key to their success. “Doing what’s right for people and pigs”, they believe translates into truly caring for employees and in turn, their employees truly care for the animals they are responsible for. Employees that feel cared for are more productive, and the same is true for the animals.

We believe future improvements in Productivity are directly related to our ability to continue to find way to reduce stress on both animals, as well as employees. By reducing stress on pigs, we in turn, automatically reduce stress on employees. This helps to create a calmer, safer, more enjoyable, and more productive working environment.
