Timorous Beasties is a Glasgow, Scotland-based textile design studio established in 1990 by Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons. The company operates within the textile manufacturing industry, producing patterns and wallcoverings that fuse historical motifs with contemporary, often subversive interpretations, aiming to transform furnished spaces from private dwellings to civic and commercial interiors. Its work spans classic decorative traditions and modern urban sensibilities, offering collections such as copperplate-inspired patterns and offbeat damask and toile-derived designs, with a focus on how pattern interacts with interior environments. The studio serves a global, design-conscious market—including residential, hospitality, and contract sectors—providing distinctive textiles and wallpapers that address the aesthetic and contextual needs of spaces while drawing on a dialogue between nature, ornament, and social space. Recent developments include expansion of its footprint with new offices and showrooms in major European cities, reflecting ongoing growth and a broader reach for its design repertoire.
