The Toledo Area Humane Society is a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization based in Maumee, Ohio, serving the Toledo area and beyond since 1884. It operates as a charitable 501(c)(3) and cares for more than 4,000 animals each year through various life-saving programs and services, funded primarily by individual and corporate supporters rather than government sources. The organization investigates over 2,000 animal cruelty reports annually and emphasizes humane treatment and relief from suffering for animals in its community. As a longstanding nonprofit within the broader animal welfare sector, it stands as one of the oldest and largest groups of its kind in the state, separate from national humane organizations and beyond United Way funding. A recent event note indicates ongoing community engagement, including participation in local craft shows and participation in formal events like Bark in the Park.
