Townsville City Council is the regional government authority for Townsville in northern Queensland. It serves a community of more than 190,000 residents and is regarded as the largest regional council in the state. The council supports sustainable growth and economic development through leadership, community engagement, and collaborative partnerships, while delivering core local government services such as roads and infrastructure, environmental protection, local parks, and neighbourhood planning. In May 2026, the council partnered with Surf Life Saving Queensland to install two smart safety beacons and camera poles at Pallarenda Beach and Picnic Bay as part of a Coastal Safety Network. This example reflects ongoing collaborations to address regional safety and infrastructure needs.
