The Tribunal de Justiça de Pernambuco is a public judicial body within the Pernambuco state judiciary, based in Recife and serving the entire state. It is part of the administration of justice and is led by 39 desembargadores, supported by a sizable staff. The tribunal traces its origins to an alvará issued on 6 February 1821 by Dom João VI, when it was established as the Tribunal da Relação de Pernambuco. Its installation followed on 13 August 1822, after rounds of interim locations, and it ultimately moved to the Palácio da Justiça, where it remains today. With jurisdiction across the Pernambuco territory, the institution fulfills a central role in the state's administration of justice.
