Just after forming United Group Management Enterprises (U.G.M Enterprises, Inc.), our president was talking with a newly installed client. The client discussed his needs and concerns with regards to information systems. He lamented that he loved technology and really wanted to ‘play around’ with it, but he wasn’t in the information systems business. He was a business man that needed technology to work like his refrigerator; the light comes on when he opens the door, he can find things easily, he doesn’t have to worry about it, and everyone seems to know how to use it. He was also tired of the fact that information seemed to be everywhere, yet no place where it was needed. Furthermore, information was duplicated and none of his people seemed to know which information was the most current. It wasn’t the first time our president heard this story. As the CFO of another technology oriented firm, she experienced the same phenomenon. The trick was, how to solve the problem and make technology work like a refrigerator. The answer: Collaboration and Convergence. Thus the working units of UGM were born.
