Founded in 1983, it is designated by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only institution with that status in Kentucky, and is led by B. Mark Evers, MD. 

Its clinical programs are integrated with the UK Albert B. Through Chandler Hospital, patients have access to diagnostic services, clinical and pathology laboratories, operating rooms, emergency and intensive care, and radiation therapy.
