The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is a United Nations regional body focused on international affairs in the Asia-Pacific region. It functions as the most inclusive intergovernmental platform in the area, fostering cooperation among its 53 member states and 9 associate members to address sustainable development challenges. The ESCAP secretariat supports inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development by generating action-oriented knowledge and offering technical assistance and capacity-building aligned with national development objectives, regional agreements, and the 2030 Agenda. Based in Bangkok, Thailand, ESCAP is one of the five United Nations regional commissions. Its work is aimed at facilitating inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development through policy guidance, knowledge creation, and development support. In 2026, ESCAP helped launch a global tracker for digital negotiable cargo documents in collaboration with the International Chamber of Commerce Digital Standards Initiative and UNCITRAL, illustrating its role in advancing digital trade facilitation.
