The University at Buffalo Nanosatellite Laboratory (UBNL) is a university-affiliated, volunteer-driven group based in Buffalo, New York, focused on building small satellites and related aerospace projects. Originating in 2011 under Dr. John Crassidis to support his research, it now collaborates with the Air Force Research Lab and NASA to take satellite concepts through to launch, with two missions currently under development aimed at space domain awareness. The lab's eldest mission, GLADOS, is funded through the AFRL's University Nanosatellite Program. UBNL has grown from a small cohort to more than 150 participants and welcomes members from all disciplines and skill levels, offering opportunities to lead and learn across subsystems. Alumni have gone on to work at major aerospace companies and to top graduate programs, and the organization regularly represents UB and UBNL at conferences.
