After nearly two decades of advancing nursing education and strengthening Qatar’s health-care workforce, the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) concluded its operations in August 2025. - Our legacy in Qatar - From 2006 to 2025, UCQ graduated more than 1,100 nursing professionals from over 40 countries, including more than 120 Qatari nationals. Its Bachelor and Master of Nursing programs, accredited in Canada and adapted to Qatar’s context, have prepared graduates to lead in clinical practice, education, research and health-care leadership. - Throughout its time in Qatar, the UCQ established strong partnerships with institutions such as the Hamad Medical Corporation, Sidra Medicine, and the Primary Health Care Corporation. It played a key role in the Interprofessional Education Committee (IPEC), collaborating with leading partners to advance team-based care, and led Continuing Professional Development (CPD) initiatives that empowered nurses and health professionals in meeting the evolving needs of Qatar’s healthcare system. It was also the first institution in the Middle East designated as a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO), promoting evidence-based nursing practices that continue to benefit the region. - UCQ is deeply grateful to the State of Qatar and to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, whose support made this journey and its lasting impact possible. While the physical campus has closed, UCQ’s legacy continues through its alumni and their ongoing contributions to health and well-being in Qatar.
