The University of Global Health Equity is a relatively new higher education institution based in Kigali, Rwanda. It trains upcoming physicians, nurses, researchers, and public health and policy professionals to take leadership roles and drive positive change in health care. The university aims to reimagine health education so that high-quality care reaches people in every corner of the globe, including underserved communities. As a mid-sized institution, UGHE focuses on strengthening the health workforce by preparing practitioners who can improve health systems and inform policy. In February 2026 it launched its first postgraduate residency program in General Surgery, marking a milestone in expanding access to specialized care for underserved populations. In May 2026 UGHE was recognized as fifth globally in Medicine in the 2026 Planetary Health Report Card, reflecting external validation of its work in the field.
