L'ateneo, con sede principale a Sassari, ha attivato corsi anche ad Alghero, Olbia, Nuoro, Oristano, con una popolazione di circa 19.000 studenti.
L'offerta formativa è ampia e variegata: con i suoi 13 dipartimenti e gli oltre 760 docenti provenienti dagli atenei di tutta l'Italia, l'ateneo turritano offre formazione in presenza e a distanza (e-learning e teledidattica), sia in campo umanistico che scientifico: una vasta gamma di lauree triennali, lauree magistrali, master, scuole di specializzazione e di dottorato.
Le strutture a supporto della ricerca sono molteplici: l'ateneo conta su oltre 40 centri di studio e 24 biblioteche, presentando un'ampia scelta per il praticantato nelle discipline mediche e ha rapporti di cooperazione con oltre 200 Università che partecipano al Programma Erasmus.

The University of Sassari has its main buildings in the city of Sassari. Additional sites are in the towns of Alghero, Olbia, Nuoro, Oristano, with a total student population of about 19,000.
The University offers a wide and varied Prospectus, which includes on-campus and distance-learning courses in the fields of Humanities and applied Sciences. It counts 13 departments, with 760 teaching staff.
The university enables all its students to further their education: graduate students are encouraged to stay on and complete higher education through MA, MSc and doctoral research programs. Specialization and special training courses are also largely available.
