The University of Torino is one of the most ancient and prestigious Italian Universities. It has about 70.000 students, 4.000 academic, administrative and technical staff, 1800 post-graduate and post-doctoral students and 120 buildings in different parts of Torino and in key places in Piemonte; the University of Torino can be considered as “city-within-a-city”, promoting culture and producing/creating, research, innovation, training and employment. The University of Torino is today one of the largest Italian Universities, open to an international perspective both in the field of research and training. It carries out scientific research and organizes courses in all disciplines, except Engineering and Architecture. The University of Torino has a remarkable tradition of research in traditional subjects such as history, philosophy, law, economics and medicine but it is actually branching out into modern and important sectors, such as food science, social politics, IT, performing arts and communication sciences. University libraries are more than 70 counting about two millions books: 100.000 are antique volumes. University takes a close interest in the network of local museums, on subjects ranging from Egypt to contemporary Art; moreover it runs its own media, radio, television and film production units.
