The University of Turin is a historic, research-oriented Italian university based in Turin, Piedmont. It enrolls about 70,000 students and employs a sizable staff, operating across more than 120 buildings and fostering culture, research, innovation, training and employment in the region. It conducts scientific research and offers courses across most disciplines, with Engineering and Architecture as the two areas not included, and maintains an international outlook for both research and training. While rooted in traditional fields such as history, philosophy, law, economics and medicine, it has expanded into areas including food science, social politics, IT, performing arts and communication sciences. The university supports a broad knowledge ecosystem, including more than 70 libraries with about two million volumes and its own media units. A recent development in March 2026 involves a joint research effort with Wageningen University & Research to map how plants take up and process selenium, illustrating ongoing international collaboration.
