University United Methodist Church is a multi-campus religious organization serving the San Antonio area, with a focus on children, youth, and community service. Its program slate includes the city’s largest day school for ages two through kindergarten, active Habitat for Humanity initiatives, an Under the Bridge homeless ministry, an accredited secondary school for students with learning disabilities, and Magdalena House, a shelter for abused women and children. The church also supports the u|ability ministry for the special needs community, offering Sunday schools, worship, vocational training, and a hands-on servant initiative, in addition to clinics and medical missions in Mexico and Guatemala and broader mission work abroad. With roots dating to 1890 when it began as West End Methodist Church, the congregation launched a northwest satellite in 1974 and was chartered as University United Methodist Church in 1978. Today it operates two campuses near San Antonio and draws thousands to weekly services, including a North Campus opened in 2008 that focuses on youth ministry, contemporary worship, and recreation evangelism.
