The Università degli Studi di Milano is a large, interdisciplinary higher education institution in Milan, Lombardy, with a strong international orientation that blends tradition with innovation to address evolving societal needs. Founded in 1924, the university plans to expand across two Milan campuses by 2026: a science-focused Campus at MIND (Milano Innovation District) and a humanities Campus at Città Studi. It participates in leading European research networks, being the only Italian founding member of the League of European Research Universities and a participant in the 4EU+ alliance, supported by a substantial research infrastructure including 31 departments and 63 research centers and a university library system. The university serves a sizable student body of more than 60,000 students, including thousands of international students, supported by a staff and faculty community of about five thousand. It offers a broad mix of study programs, with 155 degree programs (32 in English), 36 doctoral programs, 67 specialization schools, 31 master's programs, and 91 continuing education courses. In the last several years it has pursued international collaboration and joint programs, including a 2026 Erasmus+ collaboration with Charles University and Heidelberg University, reflecting its engagement with European partners to advance research and education.
