Uranium Disposition Services, LLC (UDS) is a chemical manufacturing company based in Lexington, Kentucky. It has been contracted by the U.S. Department of Energy to disposition depleted uranium hexafluoride (DUF6) currently stored at three sites—Paducah, Kentucky; Portsmouth, Ohio; and the East Tennessee Technology Park in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The core objective of the DUF6 Conversion Project is to design, build, and operate conversion facilities at Portsmouth and Paducah to convert the DUF6 inventory into a stable form suitable for reuse or disposal, while also maintaining surveillance and maintenance of cylinders containing DUF6 and related uranium hexafluoride forms. The company’s primary market consists of government-related and nuclear materials management needs, addressing the safe handling, stabilization, and disposition of DUF6. UDS operates within the chemical manufacturing landscape and is positioned to manage specialized, high-hazard material processes on DOE property. A notable recent development is the transfer of DUF6 cylinders from ETTP to the Portsmouth site for conversion under the project’s scope.
