The Tulsa District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, established in 1939 and based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is part of the Corps' Southwestern Division and serves Oklahoma and parts of southern Kansas and northern Texas. Its civil works program centers on flood control while also supporting recreation, water supply, hydropower, navigation, and habitat for fish and wildlife through 38 multipurpose lakes and five lock-and-dam facilities on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. Its 150 miles of navigation infrastructure along the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System host the most inland, ice-free river port in America and support waterway commerce. Beyond civil works, the Tulsa District provides engineering and construction management for two Army and four Air Force installations and has overseen more than $1 billion in military facility design and construction over the past decade.
