Mining51-200 Employees
US Magnesium is a mining company and the sole producer of magnesium in the western hemisphere. The company employs between 51 and 200 people and maintains a website at usmagnesium.com. It operates facilities in Tooele County, Utah, with expansion plans that include constructing a retaining wall, remediating past contamination, and adding a wastewater filtration plant as part of facility improvements. Since 2021 the company has faced substantial disruptions, including a catastrophic failure that halted production and notable workforce reductions (186 employees laid off in 2021 and again in 2024). Utah regulators have addressed the company's activities, including a 2022 settlement over years of environmental violations and a 2021 force majeure due to equipment failure.
