U.S. Masters Swimming is a national nonprofit organization that coordinates a large community of Masters swimmers across the United States, with nearly 70,000 members. Its member benefits include access to insurance, the SWIMMER magazine, and sanctioned events, among others. Working through 52 Local Masters Swimming Committees, USMS provides direct support to more than 1,500 clubs and workout groups. Program structure and delivery vary by location, influenced by pool availability, coach availability, community support, and finances; in most locations, coaches are on deck to design workouts and provide instruction and feedback. USMS is based in Sarasota, Florida, and operates within the spectator sports industry as a national umbrella for adult swimming activity. The organization is membership-driven and relies on local leadership to organize programs and events that enable competition, training, and engagement for a broad network of swimmers.
