Vaux-le-Vicomte is a historic estate that embodies the French formal garden tradition, presenting a seamless integration of landscape and architecture. Its significance stems from the collaboration of the garden designer Le Nôtre, the architect Le Vau, and the painter-decorator Le Brun, brought together by Nicolas Fouquet, which is widely regarded as foundational to this garden art. Located in Maincy, Île-de-France, it operates as a cultural institution within the museums, historical sites, and zoos sector. Its offerings attract visitors and heritage enthusiasts seeking insight into French garden design and architectural history. The site is sustained by a family-led stewardship aimed at preserving the creators’ spirit, positioning itself as a model of long-term engagement and passion within the regional cultural landscape.
