Village Health Works (VHW) is an innovative and rapidly growing non-profit organization with headquarters in NYC and operations in Burundi, East Africa. Located at the source of the Nile River, Burundi is renowned as a land of both great beauty and extreme poverty. VHW was founded upon a strong belief that good health (i.e, of the mind, body and spirit) is a prerequisite for any society to be self-sufficient and peaceful. VHW’s community-driven approach is fundamentally important in all we do, and is the guiding principle that drives the success of our work.
 
Our mission is to provide high quality and compassionate healthcare in a dignified environment, while addressing the social determinants of illness and disease. We deliver world class, locally-based, medical care, food security, gender empowerment, education, and economic development initiatives. In the past five years we have served the needs of over 90,000 patient encounters. Our well-established HIV, TB, Malnutrition, and Chronic Disease programs continue to grow successfully. The hope generated through increased health catalyzes ever more meaningful community engagement with VHW, and within society. Our organization is now expanding our health services by planned construction of a Women's Health Pavilion, Pediatrics Pavilion, and Isolation Ward.

Through this holistic and dynamic implementation of our mission, VHW brings meaningful and lasting change to some of the world's most impoverished and vulnerable people.
