Incorporated in 1956, the Village of Burr Ridge has grown into a is a suburb of Chicago, in Cook and DuPage Counties. Burr Ridge experienced significant residential growth between 1970 and 2000, with the Village’s population growing from 1,600 to over 10,000 during this period. As a sign of its rapid growth, Burr Ridge became the first municipality in DuPage County to provide Lake Michigan water to all of its residents in 1984. After the residential growth of the late 20th‐century, commercial and retail growth followed, including the development of several large industrial parks as well as County Line Square and Village Center shopping centers, home to boutique shopping, modern health clubs and spas, and fine restaurants and hotels. Economic development has been prompted by the combination of convenient access to major thoroughfares such as I‐55, I‐294, and Route 83, close proximity to downtown Chicago and Midway and O’Hare Airport, low taxes, and access to Lake Michigan water. Despite its economic development, Burr Ridge remains a destination of choice for residents seeking the benefits of a quiet suburb with good schools and high‐quality public services. Burr Ridge today is a scenic place to live as well as to visit.
