Visit Portland serves as the official destination marketing organization for the Greater Portland region in Maine, coordinating efforts to attract conventions, meetings, groups, and individual visitors. It represents Portland and neighboring towns, linking more than 400 member businesses to planners, tour operators, travel agents, writers, and travelers through direct referrals. Established in 1982 as the Greater Portland Convention & Visitors Bureau, the nonprofit, member-funded organization aims to bolster the area's economic vitality and is based in Portland, Maine. It operates two full-service visitor information centers, at the Portland International Jetport and in the Ocean Gateway district of downtown Portland, and provides visitor assistance and brochure distribution at the Portland Transportation Terminal and the Maine State Pier for cruise ship passengers. It also coordinates support for its partner businesses and maintains a broad network of industry referrals; in 2022, it partnered with GLPfilms to produce content highlighting Portland's cultural, artistic, and culinary offerings.
