The Washington Tree Fruit Research Commission is a government administration entity established by the Washington state legislature in 1969 to promote and carry on research and administer industry service programs related to the planting, production, harvesting, handling, processing, or shipment of tree fruit in Washington, with coordination with other state, federal, and private agencies. The commission is governed by nine commissioners: three appointed by the Washington State Fruit Commission, five by the Washington Apple Commission, and one appointed by the Washington Director of Agriculture to represent the pear industry; commissioners are active fruit growers or have a substantial interest in tree fruit production. Grower assessments fund its research activities, with funds allocated to different commodities; in fiscal year 2012-2013, more than $2,000,000 in research funding was devoted. The organization is based in Wenatchee, Washington, at 1719 Springwater Avenue, and it employs 11-50 people. Recent activities include releasing an updated Technology Roadmap in March 2024 and completing a 2023 pesticide residue study for apples, and it has engaged in collaborations such as a partnership with Western Growers on automation initiatives.
