The Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) is a government-owned utility based in Gaborone, Botswana, responsible for planning, constructing, operating, treating and distributing water resources in urban centers and other areas designated by the government. Established in 1970 by an Act of Parliament, its mandate initially focused on supplying and distributing water for the Shashe Development Area and delivering bulk water to the Department of Water Affairs and Local Authorities for distribution to villages and smaller settlements. Over more than five decades, WUC's role expanded to provide potable water to all urban centers and villages nationwide, and to manage wastewater under the Water Sector Reforms Programme implemented between 2009 and 2014. The corporation's asset base exceeds P3.4 billion in property, plant and equipment and its infrastructure includes six dams (Gaborone, Nnywane, Bokaa, Shashe, Letsibogo and Ntimbale) and the North South Carrier Scheme, with additional dams Dikgatlhong, Thune and Lotsane under construction. A notable recent development is the September 2024 launch of a Smart Water Metering Solution.
